Petit Verdot (2016)

Black cherry and plum flavors stand out in this vintage. Bold and tannic.

The name means "Little Green" and describes the tendency of the vines grown in France to produce grape clusters that are populated with both ripe and hard little unripe green grapes. Wine made predominately from unripe grapes is a no-no. In Bordeaux, Petit Verdot is considered a minor grape and is typically used in blends.

Petit Verdot vines do well in Virginia's climate. The grape clusters ripen uniformly here and make an excellent varietal. We use it as a varietal and in our Dutchman's Creek Blend.
